Hair-raising experiences seem to define the Maserati brand, and that always steers it to create products on the more exciting end of the spectrum. V8s might be no more, but the memories of that stunning work of art will always command massive respect, wrapped in achingly beautiful Quattroporte and GranTurismo silhouettes.

More recently, a GranCabrio Trofeo launch towards the tail end of last year turned heads in more ways than one - a S$888,000 (excluding COE) price tag almost forgiven for a design we could not take our eyes off.

A natural path of progression, we reckon, would be to have fully electrified versions within their range. Folgore stands for lightning in Italian, and while we might yearn for the aural drama Maseratis have long been associated with, it’s undeniable what a fully electrified drivetrain can muster on the performance front. Cue the Maserati Grecale compact SUV, GranTurismo grand tourer and chopped top GranCabrio in “Folgore” variants.

410kW, 820Nm Grecale Folgore

Launched a year after the hybrid and petrol models, the Grecale Folgore is designed and built in Italy. It features a 105kWh battery with 400V tech, delivering 410kW and 820 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 220 km/h. It offers four drive modes - MAX RANGE, GT, SPORT and OFFROAD - accessible via a sporty forged black steering wheel with a blue start button.

MAX RANGE mode conserves energy by limiting speed to 130km/h and reducing throttle and climate control, ideal when battery is below 16% and charging points are scarce. All models include air suspension for enhanced comfort and control.

560kW, 1,350Nm GranTurismo Folgore

GranTurismo Folgore is an all-electric grand tourer powered by three motors - one at the front and two at the rear - delivering over 1200CV in total. The rear motors are completely decoupled, allowing precise torque vectoring to each wheel. The motors, built exclusively for Maserati, use high-efficiency silicon carbide inverters inspired by Formula E, offering a power density of 9.2 kW/kg. Its 92.5kWh “T-bone” battery is designed to sit around the central tunnel rather than under the seats, keeping the car’s height to just 1,353mm.

This layout lowers the centre of gravity and preserves the car’s sporty character, making the GranTurismo Folgore the lowest electric vehicle on the market.

GranCabrio Folgore’s fabric hood opens in 14 seconds

Its fabric roof, available in five colours, maintains comfort and aerodynamics whether up or down. The roof opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16, while driving at speeds up to 50km/h, and can be controlled via touchscreen or gesture commands.

A smart boot layout includes a movable cargo space that adjusts based on roof position.
