There are now eight body colours to choose from, with five two-tone combinations. Its wheelbase has been extended, and there is even an option of 19-inch alloy wheels for the higher tier “Prestige” variant. The more basic “Premium” version will be getting 18-inch rims. LED headlamps are now slimmer and sharper, and feature technology that adapts the shape of the beam according to road conditions.

The cabin includes nappa leather upholstery and white ambient lighting. The infotainment system features a 12.3-inch TFT multi-information screen (for the Prestige variant) and can be controlled from a new tactile dial switch on the steering wheel. A new 10.8-inch head-up display and 9-inch “NissanConnect” display screen is also available for the Prestige model. Infotainment systems for both the “Premium” and “Prestige” variants will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Powering the Qashqai is a turbocharged 1.3-litre engine and a 12-volt mild hybrid system with a lithium-ion battery. The system enables energy regenerated during deceleration to be used while driving to provide torque assist, extended idle stop, quick restart, and coasting stop. We were hoping for a version equipped with e-Power technology (currently offered in the Nissan Kicks, Note and Serena for the Singapore market), which almost won OneShift's Powertrain Of The Year last year.

For the first time, the rear hatchback door of the Qashqai is now made of a composite material, which saves 2.6 kilograms. This and additional advanced manufacturing techniques result in weight savings of 60 kilograms and a 41% increase in structural rigidity compared to its predecessor. Handling should be more precise now with an updated Macpherson strut set-up at the front, held together by Nissan’s new CMF-C platform.

The Nissan Qashqai retails from S$170,800 for the “Premium” variant (inclusive of COE and launch discount of S$5,000) from now until 20 April 2022, 12pm SGT. The “Prestige” variant will set you back S$13,000 more, but you’ll be getting larger 19-inch rims, a powered tailgate, a larger infotainment system, Bose speakers and a head-up display.
