The LC convertible prototype made its debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, which took place from 4 July to 7 July in the United Kingdom. Taking on the Festival’s celebrated hill course, the prototype was a much-anticipated highlight in the annual showcase of the finest modern and classic sports cars.

When launched, the convertible sports coupe will expand Lexus’ luxury lifestyle offerings, broadening the LC line-up and rounding off the brand’s stable of flagship models.

Taking the Lexus LC to the Next Level

Since its launch in 2016, the LC coupe has quickly established itself as one of the most sought after and internationally acclaimed models to come out of the Lexus factory – thanks to its combination of striking design, fine craftsmanship and exhilarating performance.

The possible inclusion of a convertible to Lexus’ range was first teased at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January this year, where Lexus revealed the LC Convertible Concept, based on the design goal of “Ultimate Beauty”. Like the LC itself when it made its debut in 2016, the concept car was honoured at NAIAS with a prestigious EyesOn Design Award for Best Designed Exterior Lighting.

Long, low and lean, the LC convertible will share the coupe’s athletic proportions, yet project its own distinct identity – the prototype model’s large wheels and short overhangs signalling its performance pedigree and rewarding driving experience. At Goodwood, the LC convertible carried masking, hinting at the design detail and dynamic capabilities of the full production version.

Professional New Zealand racing driver Nick Cassidy, who races the Lexus LC 500 in the Super GT series, tackled the notoriously challenging Goodwood hill climb course with ease – showcasing the performance capabilities of the LC convertible prototype. Following its appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019, the prototype LC convertible will continue to be showcased at different venues around the world, gathering feedback for the engineers.

“The Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrates the history and culture of the automobile and serves as an annual gathering place for some of history’s most notable cars and drivers,” said Koji Sato, Lexus International Executive Vice President. “Lexus is honoured to join this festival, and I could not be happier to unveil this prototype model of the LC convertible at the same venue where the LC coupe made its debut in 2016.”

Detailed specifications and timings for the LC convertible’s market introduction will be announced at a later date.
