Lexus LBX Is The Only Luxury Compact Self-Charging Full Hybrid In Singapore
And it’s Lexus’ first Cat A COE car!
Lexus has introduced the Lexus LBX, a highly anticipated self-charging full hybrid crossover, at the Singapore Motorshow 2024. The LBX stands out as the only self-charging full hybrid in its class. The event, held at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre from 11 to 14 January, also features other luxury self-charging full hybrids from Lexus, including the ES, NX, RX, LM and the all-electric RZ.
Luxury, in Cat A’s playground
The LBX is powered by a 1.5-litre self-charging hybrid electric system that churns out 129bhp and 120Nm. One should perhaps narrow in on its excellent claimed fuel consumption figure at 19.6km/l on the combined cycle - not bad for one that can sprint to 100km/h in 9.6 seconds. It showcases advanced technologies while maintaining Lexus's hallmark qualities of luxury craftsmanship. The vehicle includes premium goodies such as a Mark Levinson audio system, and a suite of best-in-class advanced safety features.
Luxury need not be big and bulky
The creation of the LBX was inspired by the vision of Lexus Master Driver, Akio Toyoda, who aimed to challenge traditional perceptions of luxury cars. Toyoda envisioned a vehicle that transcends the limitations of compact size, providing a top-tier driving experience and design. The objective was to craft a car specifically catering to discerning customers, meeting their changing lifestyle needs and enhancing their enjoyment during casual drives.

The LBX showcases a unified grille in a singular trapezoid shape, positioned beneath a slender aperture running along the leading edge of the bonnet. This design, accentuated by a one-piece chrome moulding, connects the slim headlight units. It draws inspiration from Lexus' "Resolute Look," originally introduced in the 2003 LF-S concept car, which later became a distinctive styling feature for Lexus production models from the early 2000s, reflecting the brand's design legacy.
