The press kit for the EV5 had Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) mentioned - it’s not an error, folks. We had to do a double take, but it’s confirmed - Kia’s EV5 EV SUV will be made in Singapore, and you can view it now at Singapore Motorshow 2025.

It’s Cat A-eligible too, so pricing should comparably be more reasonable when it makes its official launch in Q2 2025. This mid-size SUV joins the EV6 and EV9 as key products for Kia’s electrified future.

It’s not often we let specs take a back seat, because if it involves a car made in Singapore, we’ll gladly publicise it. The EV5 will be manufactured in HMGICS, Hyundai Motor Group’s first open global innovation hub and testbed for future mobility.

Of course, this is made possible as Kia is part of Hyundai Motor Group - it holds an ownership stake in HMGICS. AI and robotics will be used in its manufacturing process, joining the IONIQ 5 and 6 siblings as proud pioneers.

Now for the key specs - 110kW and 310Nm, powered by a 88.1kWh battery. Range is tagged at 540km (WLTP). 10% to 80% charging takes 38 minutes from a 141kW DC charger. V2L is possible with a 3.7kW socket. The press release did mention 2 battery options - we reckon the beefier alternative might fall in the Cat B/E COE bracket - we’ll know for sure come Q2.

Boxy mid-size SUVs are few and far between (think current Merc GLBs and old school Subaru Foresters), but the EV5 has done well to wear this silhouette. There’s a 513-litre boot, expandable to 1,714 litres when the need arises.

We're as excited as you - one more to call our own, in an island nation that traditionally outsources manufacturing to markets with more land mass and manpower. Salute!
