Jeep Renegade Hits The Urban Streets Of Singapore
Singapore, May 2017 – It’s time to take on the urban streets of Singapore with the Jeep® Renegade – Jeep’s first foray into the small sport-utility vehicle (SUV) segment. Arriving locally in the Limited trim and equipped with a 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo engine, the Jeep Renegade delivers a unique combination of best-in-class drive quality, on-road driving dynamics, fuel-efficiency and world-class refinement. Built with a generation of youthful and adventurous drivers in mind, the Jeep Renegade arrives in Singapore with a host of innovative safety and advanced technology offerings including Blind-Spot Monitoring and LaneSense® Lane Departure Warning.
Designed in America and crafted in Italy, the Renegade showcases Jeep’s global resources and dedication to meeting customer needs in the world market. Equipped with Jeep’s iconic trademark – the familiar 7-slot grille, circular headlights, and an upright stance, the Jeep Renegade embraces the brand’s heritage styling while looking every bit suited to ply the daily urban traffic that city drivers encounter.
As the first Jeep vehicle built exclusively outside of the United States, the development of the Renegade was a global coordination of Jeep engineering and design, with Italian craftsmanship and execution.
“From the Renegade’s infancy, the global development team understood the significance of jointly designing, developing and delivering the first Jeep SUV built outside of the United States,” said “The Jeep Renegade not only represents a new milestone for the company and the Jeep brand, it represents the result of our global collaboration, talent and teamwork.” Following its launch in 2015, the Jeep Renegade has received success in global markets contributing to record-breaking growth for the brand across Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Globally, Jeep has recorded a fifth consecutive year of record-breaking sales in 2016, with the Renegade contributing 19.8 per cent of more than 1.4 million Jeep sold worldwide.
The Jeep Renegade has received a number of prestigious international awards from automotive press including:
• 2015 Car of the Year by Autoesporte Magazine, Brazil
• 2015 Editor’s Choice Award for Most Fun SUV by Autoweek, USA
• 2016 Best City SUV by Drive (Australia)
• 2016 and 2017 Subcompact SUV Best Buy by Consumer Guide® Automotive, USA
The 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine featured in the Jeep Renegade Limited offers 138 horsepower and 230Nm of torque for a spirited driving experience. Mated to a 6speed dry dual clutch automatic transmission, the 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo engine transmits its power through high-strength components throughout the drivetrain, including equallength half shafts and a 4.438 final-drive ratio. Boost pressure is dynamically managed to provide a broad torque curve over a wide variety of ambient conditions, with a peak pressure of 22 psi at 4,000 rpm, translating to a comfortable and dynamic city drive.
Innovative MultiAir valve-actuation technology controls intake air cylinder-by-cylinder and stroke-by-stroke, boosting fuel-economy up to 7.5 per cent, compared with an engine with conventional valvetrain. The Jeep Renegade delivers a combined fuel efficiency of 5.9L/ 100km.
Having drawn inspiration from contemporary extreme sports gear and active lifestyles, the Renegade design team affectionately titled the car’s interior design language “Tek-Tonic”. This design theme is defined by the intersections of soft and tactile forms with rugged and functional details. Major surfaces, such as the sculpted soft-touch instrument panel, are intersected with bold functional elements like the passenger grab handle – indispensable for off-road adventures and borrowed from its big brother, the iconic Jeep Wrangler.
Unique “protective clamp fasteners,” anodized design accents and inspired colours are derived from extreme sports equipment, while the distinctive “X” shape in the Renegade’s unique tail lamp is inspired by Army Jerry Cans – paying homage to the original Jeep Willys from 1942.
This city-friendly sized Jeep features a noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) package, which includes laminated acoustic windshield glass, under-flush rolled-framed doors with triple seals and acoustic wheel-well liners to absorb road noise. Additionally, engineers maximized the vehicle’s structural design and tuned the interior environment for a quieter sound level by isolating powertrain, wind, and road noise. Combined, these design improvements provide the Renegade with world-class interior sound quality.
The Jeep Renegade features a unibody structure, with the upper body structure and frame engineered as a single unit for a stiff and more mass-efficient structure. Jeep Renegade’s rigid foundation can be credited to the extensive use of high-strength steel and liberal use of structural adhesives. This small SUV utilizes approximately 70 per cent high-strength steel for maximizing vehicle dynamics and crash performance while optimizing weight efficiency.
One of the most notable body structure features is the application of advance high-strength and “hot-stamped” steels in the upper- and under-body, A- and B-pillars, front header, sills and rails. Combined, these structural attributes enable the Jeep Renegade’s roof strength, as well as enhanced visibility via thinner pillar sections.
Enhanced chassis-to-body structure interfaces, including suspension brackets and cradle attachments, are designed to ensure high stiffness at those points and minimize lowfrequency noise into the cabin. Additionally, this rigid body structure enabled engineers to dial-in the Jeep Renegade’s chassis tuning. The overall result is Jeep Renegade’s solid, confident and refined feel on the road or trail.
Designed and engineered with extensive use of advanced steels, composites and advanced computer-impact simulations, the Renegade’s architecture delivers world-class torsional stiffness and the Jeep brand’s durability required on various on-road adventures.
The Jeep Renegade comes packed with various safety and security features such as Blindspot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with electronic roll mitigation, LaneSense Departure Warning, and six standard air bags.
The Jeep Renegade achieved the highest possible global safety rating – 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
The Jeep Renegade features precise steering thanks to its electric power steering (EPS) and driving steering torque (DST) systems, which improve both handling and performance. The Jeep Renegade features the latest advanced steering-column-mounted EPS system technology, which delivers sporty handling by managing significant loads at all speeds and power assist curves modulated according to driving conditions. A fully electronic system provides the steering power boost (or assist) via an electric motor resulting in optimal steering effort for drivers at all speeds while improving fuel efficiency without parasitic loss from a power steering pump. The Jeep Renegade’s DST system improves both driving safety and handling performance by actively carrying out corrections, and automatically controlling oversteer over surfaces with low grip in all driving conditions. Moreover, the steering system is fully integrated with the vehicle’s electronic stability control (ESC) system to help compensate in split-traction, torque steer and pull-drift situations.
The Jeep Renegade offers technology features once found only in upper-segment vehicles, and makes them attainable to customers in the growing small SUV segment – including Jeep’s award-winning Uconnect touchscreen and the segment’s largest full-colour instrument cluster.
• Uconnect touchscreen radio system: in-vehicle handsfree communication, and entertainment. Key features available on the Uconnect 5.0 system include a 5-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port and auxiliary audio jack input.
• Segment’s largest full-colour instrument cluster display: filling the Jeep Renegade’s gauge cluster in front of the driver is an available 7-inch, full-colour, premium multiview display, featuring a reconfigurable function that enables drivers to personalise information inside the instrument cluster. The information display is designed to visually communicate information, using graphics and text, quickly and easily.
Youthful and vibrant
The Jeep Renegade Limited is available in six exciting exterior paint colours – Jetset Blue, Omaha Orange, Colorado Red, Alpine White, Black, and Solar Yellow.
