James Bond’s second car!

Those of you that have seen ‘Casino Royale’ (or read oneshift.com’s news) will no doubt know about 007’s sleek Aston Martin DBS, but the world’s most famous spy also got to drive a second ‘top secret’ car – the 2007 Ford Mondeo.

Actor Daniel Craig drives the new Mondeo while Bond is in the Bahamas, but getting the car ready for its cameo role was quite an event in itself. Firstly, the film makers needed the car almost a year ahead of its official launch – this means it had to be handcrafted by Ford’s design studio near Cologne, Germany, but unlike most other styling prototypes, the Mondeo had to be a running model, and this added to the work involved.

The other thing is that the car had to be kept secret as the Mondeo had yet to be launched. For the filming, the car had to be shipped to the Bahamas and back in special crate and kept hidden from industrial spies. The car in the movie is a Tonic Blue-coloured Mondeo 5-door, and the car was first shown to the public at the Paris Motorshow in late September this year.

Ford has had quite a long relationship with the 007 franchise - there was a white Mustang convertible “Goldfinger”, a two-wheeling red and black Mustang Mach I in “Diamonds Are Forever” and it was a black Ford Cortina that chased Bond’s Lotus Esprit in “The Spy Who Loved Me”.

So if the Aston Martin DBS is out of your price range, perhaps, Bond’s second car, the new Mondeo will be more affordable: www.sonypictures.com/movies/casinoroyale
