Jaecoo J7 PHEV SUV Clocks 1,427km In A Single Tank
Singapore to Hat Yai test route surpasses 1,200km WLTP claim.
2024’s new car sales results in Singapore stated that more than 200 plug-in hybrids (PHEV) were sold. While that’s comparatively not a monumental figure, it goes to show that there’s still room to grow in a segment we reckon is a sweet spot in years to come.
Recently, 5 Jaecoo J7 PHEVs embarked on a journey from Singapore to Hat Yai, Thailand, via Malaysia, to test their range capabilities. All vehicles surpassed the 1,200km WLTP range, with the highest recorded distance reaching 1,427.5km.
It surpassed its specifications with a 947km petrol range, a 108km electric range (18km more than specified), and an improved fuel consumption rate of 3.5L/100km compared to the standard 6.6L/100km.
Jaecoo believes that the J7 is designed to meet the market’s demand for improved fuel economy and strong performance. A 18.3kW battery, a 60-litre fuel tank and 525Nm of torque are promising figures, and this localised exercise proved effective too.
6.6kW AC charging takes the J7 from 30% to 80% in 3 hours, while DC fast charging can achieve the same range in 20 minutes at 40kW. Its hybrid battery features a thermal management system, impact resistance, IP68 rating and fire resistance.
