Guests were invited to witness a showcase of the prototype Hyundai NEXO at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Singapore on Tuesday, 27th November 2018. Their latest Fuel Cell technology combines hydrogen and oxygen producing electricity, with water and heat as a by-product.

While hydrogen fuel cell cars are categorised as electric vehicles, the main advantage to them is the significantly quicker recharging time, compared to current in-the-market electric cars.

The NEXO takes less than 5 minutes to ‘fill up’, meaning that owners will not need to make large adjustments to their car ownership experience and lifestyle. The NEXO’s 370 mile (595km) range is also similar to figures currently produced by cars with internal combustion petrol engines.

Battery powered vehicles may be emissions-free, however they have to be plugged-in over an extended period of time to charge; while Plug-in hybrids do have the current-day advantage of an internal combustion engine for range, although the electric drive systems are not intended as its primary means of propulsion.

Conventional hybrids on the other hand, are powered by internal combustion engines and an electric drive system which cannot be plugged in. Even though these vehicles stake claim to being cleaner than conventional vehicles, they still however draw their power from fossil fuels.

The Hyundai NEXO is built with a dedicated vehicle architecture, and includes a light powertrain and an improved hydrogen storage system that takes up less space compared to the current Tucson FCEV, and benefits from more power and torque. Performance-wise, the NEXO accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 9.5 seconds.

The NEXO also boasts cold start capability within 30 seconds after being challenged to overnight temperatures of -29 degrees Celsius. It also boasts excellent cooling performance on steep grades with temperatures exceeding 49 degrees Celsius.

Due to a lack of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in Singapore, Komoco Motors confirmed that they will not be executing the sales of this lovely Hyundai NEXO.
