It is possible that the S3000 will borrow design cues from the OSM (Open Study Model) and CR-Z concept cars. But beneath the dramatic new styling, the new "S" will stay true to its predecessor's lightweight construction and tight proportions.
There are also rumours that Honda may plonk a 3 or 3.5 litre V6 into the S3000, but considering the current economic climate, a 4-cylinder 2.5 litre is more likely than a big displacement engine. A simplified hybrid system could also be in the works.
Two years ago, Honda's Motoatsu Shiraishi admitted that the "S2000 has not been a success for Honda", and that a different approach could be taken for the replacement. Mr. Shiraishi did hint that the successor would have a paddle-shift system, as the manual gearbox turned off many potential buyers.
One thing these rumours have in common: There will be more details on the "S" car after the debut of the new NSX.
