Hawaii becomes first US State to sue Takata
As you probably have read hundreds of times already, Takata has been in some hot water ever since the company has been found manufacturing, and fitting to production cars, faulty airbags. Now though, Hawaii claims that the firm knowly sold airbags that are potentially defective in a suit filed on the 13th of May. They also unearthed evidence that allegedly claims that the company covered up data that proved said airbags were of danger, and were reluctant to recall them. The US State also included Honda in the complaints. According to the officials in Hawaii, the firm switched to propellant that is lower cost, despite knowing that the propellant was "unpredictable and prone to explode." The suit was filed via its Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Office of Consumer Protection, and they are looking for the maximum civil penalty of $10,000 for each vehicle fitted with the airbags. That’s not all. Takata will also need to compensate the owners, then run campaigns to spur owners to get their cars mended, and also to surrender the profits they have made from the sale of them. So far, their faulty airbags have cost 13 lives, with 100 more hurt.
