How fast is this new Panamera “top model”?

Just before its launch, the new top model of the Porsche Panamera set a time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Driven by Porsche test driver Lars Kern, a pre-series version of the high-performance touring saloon completed the course 5.64 seconds quicker than the previous generation's comparable model.

Lars Kern had already set class records on the Nordschleife in 2016 and 2020 in the Panamera, most recently in the Panamera Turbo S (7:29.81 minutes). “On the Nordschleife, the transverse dynamic capabilities of a car are particularly important,” Kern comments. “The new Panamera has made significant gains in this area. In technically demanding corner sequences in particular, such as between the ‘Hohe Acht’ and ‘Brünnchen’ sections of the track section, it responds with noticeably greater agility.”

Could it be a beefed up version of e-Hybrid?

Likely - the new Panamera’s lap time, over five seconds faster than the previous model, demonstrates the continuous development of the four-door sports car. Its performance is due to the electrically supported eight-cylinder engine, though accordingly to Porsche, this is not the only factor for the improved lap time.

Will this Panamera be the road-going version?

To protect the driver, the Panamera driven by Lars Kern was equipped with a racing seat and a safety cage, but was otherwise the same as the series version. The car featured specially developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and an optional Carbon Aerokit to eliminate lift on the front axle. Combined with a Gurney flap on the adaptive rear spoiler, this setup generated downforce, enhancing aerodynamic balance.
