Fifth Generation Honda City Arrives In Singapore. Prices Begin At $92,999

Singapore 28 August 2020 -  The 5th generation Honda City was available for pre-bookings at the end of July. Well finally it is here. Developed around the concept of ‘Ambitious Sedan’, the Japanese automaker set out to build a car which is more upscale. The new City compact sedan is longer by 111mm, and wider by 54mm. Height has been slightly lowered by 10mm, all this according to Honda, to give a sense of advanced and dynamic sleek cabin motion. The sedan’s thin shoulderline, which stretches from the front edge of the headlamp, to the rear tail lamp, is inspired by the slicing motion of a Katana blade; visually stretching the form of the sedan. New LED headlamps and Daytime Running Lights (DRL) are integrated within the solid wing face, which were first seen on the Accord and 1.5 litre turbocharged Civic.

The new Honda City boasts an ASEAN NCAP 5-star safety rating, this is achieved with the help of the use of an ultra-high tensile strength steel frame. Active safety features which help contribute to the City’s high safety rating, like its Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), are included as standard equipment. While these systems are not visible to those operating the car, features like its 7” Display Audio, which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, offers a Multi-angle Rear-view Camera with three selectable rear views, along with rear sensors, to ensure customer confidence when reversing.

Switchgear has seen a step up in quality, with knobs and buttons feeling similar to those found in cars a class above. The City’s interior packaging has also been improved on, with rear passengers benefiting from added space for their legs and knees. The new City also has a large 519 litre boot, which Honda stakes claim to it being the best in-class.

The sportier RS variant of the City receives fancier body trim in gloss black, including front fog lamps which are enclosed in an angled grille, and a trunk-mounted spoiler. Its rim size also increases to 16”. Interior trim upgrades, like suede-lined seats, and sportier restyled dials are part of the RS package.

Both City variants are powered by a 1.5 litre DOHC engine with i-VTEC, good for 121ps and 145Nm. Drive is supplied to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. The City boasts a combined 5.6L/100km (17.9km/L), which is admirable.

The new Honda City is available in 5 colours, Lunar Silver (metallic), Platinum White (pearl), Modern Steel (metallic) and Crystal Black (pearl). Ignite Red (metallic) is an exclusive colour for the RS model only.
