F1: Slight Alterations to be made to Marina Bay Street Circuit
Since the inaugural race in 2008, the Marina Bay Street Circuit has received numerous alterations to the track layout in a bid to either make the racing closer, or to improve the safety for both drivers and spectators. Bar the 2009 repositioning of the pit lane exit, the 2015 refresh may be the greatest change yet, as the whole T11 – T13 complex will be reprofiled and/or altered to improve the racing. However, racing certainly wasn’t on the URA’s plans when the area around the complex were altered; the enhancement works were done to integrate Esplanade Park and Empress Place, which should form a new arts, culture and lifestyle district. The FIA green-lighted the realignment, which will see T11 will remain relatively untouched, even though it will now sit much tighter with the left-hand side of Fullerton Road. This will make the corner speed a little lower as compared to last year. Drivers will now utilise the left lane of the Anderson Bridge, before accelerating to similar speeds to previous years. The hairpin T13 has been widened in a bid to aid overtaking. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
