F1: Raikkonen to partner Alonso at Ferrari
Alonso has been Ferrari's number 1 for a couple of years now. That is set to change with the arrival of former champion Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen was world champion in 2007 with the Maranello based team, and left 1/2 a year early in 2009 to make way for Alonso. This move comes as a surprise to various team bosses and enthusiasts alike, for Raikkonen and head of Ferrari Luca di Montezemolo has had a toxic relationship in the past, despite both parties fervently denying the rumours. It is rumoured that Ferrari will be adopting a team strategy similar to what they used in 2007 and 2008 to win the titles, rather than have a set number 1 and 2. This will be the first time Ferrari has a all-world champion line-up since Alberto Ascari and Nino Farina in 1953. That said, this isn't the first time in recent years that a team has a all-champion lineup; Mclaren fielded 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton and 2009 champion Jenson Button from 2010-2012. Luckily for the team, the duo turned out to be a great pair and got along fairly well. Will the Alonso/Raikkonen partnership work just as well? Only time will tell.Pictures used for illustration only.
