F1: Hamilton wins at home

Lewis Hamilton wins at Silverstone! The Briton brought home his Silver Arrow almost half a minute before the Williams of Valtteri Bottas flew past the finish line. Rising Aussie star Daniel Ricciardo then brought home his RB10 to complete the podium. The race started, and stopped almost immediately. The hard charging Raikkonen ran wide at the Wellington straight after trying to outbrake Sutil. When he rejoined the circuit, his F14-T bounced over the rain gulley sending him into the barrier. The crash took out Felipe Massa as well, and damaged Chilton’s Marussia and Kobayashi’s Caterham. Raikkonen walked away from the 47G impact, but may miss the Silverstone test as a precaution. The race was red flagged almost immediately, for the barriers were deemed unsafe as a result of the crash. It took almost an hour to re-erect the structure of the support and the barrier itself, and once that was done, the race was restarted under the safety car. Rosberg took the opportunity to back everyone up way before the safety car line, and bolted when no one else behind expected him to. The pace of the W05 was so good that within 4 laps, he was a massive 5 seconds ahead of the MP4-29 piloted by Jenson Button. Sadly that was where things went downhill for Rosberg. His W05 became increasing sick, and eventually, the car had no drive. Hamilton was let through, and so where the rest of the field. Panic was rife in the cockpit of the #6 Mercedes, as Rosberg begged the team to provide him with a safe setting in a bid to bring the car to the end of the race. The setting worked briefly, giving him 2 gears to play with, but eventually the car cut out and he was out. Towards the later stages of the race, there were 2 epic battles. Alonso and Vettel battled each other non-stop for many laps, trading places and racing wheel to wheel at every opportunity. Other than the occasional moaning from the pair of them over the radio, it was a decent scrap! The next battle was Ricciardo and Button. The Aussie has 30 odd lap old options at this time, and it was obvious they were past it. Button on fresher primes, took almost a second consistently out the Ricciardo’s lead, but eventually ran out of laps to try to make a move. He did finish just 0.9 second behind the Australian though, his best ever finish at a British Grand Prix. A total of 6 cars failed to make the flag, Raikkonen, Massa, Gutierezz, Rosberg, Ericsson and Maldonado. Rosberg’s retirement means that his lead has been reduced to just 4 points in the championship! This should be an interesting 2nd half of the season, and we expect to see wheel to wheel battles amongst the duo right to Abu Dhabi.
