F1: Giedo van der Garde wins court case to drive in Australia
Sauber has been in financial trouble lately. After struggling to pay off suppliers towards the tail end of 2014, they signed on 2 drivers with the most amount of sponsorship cash to help with the monetary issues. What they have conveniently forgotten, is that they have already signed a race contract with former Caterham driver Giedo van der Garde for the 2015 season. The Dutchman brought the case to the Swiss and Aussie courts, and both courts have given their verdict, with ruling favouring van der Garde. This adds an extra dimension of uncertainty, for Sauber had no intention of letting van der Garde drive, and last minute alterations would have to be made to the car so he would fit. Sauber believes that it is extremely dangerous to put a driver in a car that was not designed for him, but van der Garde believes that he has never been fitter and more ready for a Formula One season than ever. At the moment, it is unclear whether Sauber will drop one of their current drivers, or stubbornly stick with Ericsson and Nasr and risk contempt of court.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
