EU: VW to halt sales of diesel cars in Europe

Volkswagen has been in a spot of bother recently, after it was revealed that the German automaker was using ‘cheater software’ to get around emissions test in the States. Sales of 2016 VW TDI vehicles have been halted in the US until the cars have been remapped to legitimately pass emissions tests. Now though, sales of affected new VW diesels in Europe have been put on hold too, with Reuters saying that a ‘limited number’ has been affected. VW will no longer sell any other TDI car equipped with the affected EA 189/Euro 5 engine, which may seem like good news for the automaker, but you have to remember that the engine is very widely used in the VW-Audi Group’s portfolio. For now, VW will be working on designing a fix for the EA 189, before fitting to the affected cars and hopefully finding buyers for them. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
