This will help help commuters calculate their exact fares. With fares shown against each journey option, commuters can then choose one that best suits their transport needs.

As announced in April this year, the introduction of Distance Fares from 3 July will bring about a more integrated fare structure where fares are calculated on the total distance travelled in a single journey. Commuters do not pay more if they choose to make transfers during that journey. Today, journeys with transfers cost more as commuters need to pay a transfer penalty. As the land transport network expands, commuters will have greater flexibility in their travel choices, and if these choices involve transfers, they will not have to pay more.

"Distance Fares will benefit all public transport commuters, giving them more choices and greater flexibility in their travel choices. The roadshows is one of many platforms to reach out and educate the public on Distance Fares," said Acting Chief Executive, Mr Lim Bok Ngam.

Information on Distance Fares is currently available on the following channels:
(a) Online at the PublicTransport@SG portal (www.publictransport.sg)
(b) Posters in buses and at bus stops, bus interchanges, MRT stations, Community Centres/Clubs and Residents' Committees
(c) Brochures at bus interchanges, MRT stations, Community Centres/Clubs and Residents' Committees
(d) Advertorials in mainstream papers
(e) Videos at MRT stations, bus interchanges and on www.publictransport.sg and YouTube. Copies of the video have also been provided to schools and Community Centres/Clubs
