Continental AG is responding to the substantial price increases for the most important raw materials required in car tyre manufacture by raising the list prices for summer and winter tyres in Germany from 1st June of this year.

The cost of natural rubber, for example, has more than doubled, whilst oil has become approximately 80% dearer than in the previous year. These raw materials are major fundamental constituents in the manufacture of tyres - even though Continental is working strenuously to find replacements for fossile raw materials in particular.

Tyres contain over 40% natural rubber, whilst oils are the basis for fillers such as carbon black.

Continental will be increasing the list prices for its summer tyres by an average of 3%, and around 5% for winter tyres, relying on this measure to enable the company to compensate at least to some extent for the substantial rises in the costs of raw materials.
