Fastback sedan silhouette a refreshing sight in a sea filled with electrified crossovers and SUVs.
What is a BYD Seal?
It’s an electric compact executive fastback / sedan manufactured by BYD Auto and belongs to their "Ocean Series" of EVs. It comes after the BYD ATTO 3 compact SUV and Dolphin hatchback, and in certain countries it’s sold as the BYD ATTO 4.
How much is the BYD Seal?
The “entry-level” Dynamic will cost S$238,888, while the Premium will set you back S$248,888. Top-of-the-line Performance is priced at S$280,888. All are based on a non-guaranteed COE. Top up S$4k for each model to guarantee a COE. There are also launch discounts including owner benefits (S$5k off) and a straight S$4k reduction off the total bill.
Tell me more about the 3 variants bound for the Singapore market.
Dynamic churns out 203bhp from a single motor, RWD platform. A 61.4kWh battery is good for 460km of claimed range. Premium receives a power bump to 313bhp, along with a larger battery (82.6 kWh) that is capable of a claimed range of 570km. The only AWD variant is reserved for the top-tier Performance - a delicious 530bhp from a dual motor setup. Headlining this variant will be the 0-100km/h sprint at a mind boggling 3.8 seconds. Battery is of the same size as the mid-tier variant, and range is tagged at a claimed 520km.
What about its charging capabilities?
A high-voltage electric drive enhancement charging system enables quick charging for the Seal. This technology utilises a motor inductor to replace the original boost inductor, accommodating the 420-750V voltage range required for high-power DC charging stations. This approach also reduces heat generation during charging. The Seal also comes with a standard 7kW on-board AC charger and can rapidly charge at a DC charging station with a capacity of up to 150 kW, allowing for a 30% to 80% charge completion in 30 minutes.
Is the BYD Seal spacious?
It’s a versatile four-door sedan that seats five comfortably, offering ample legroom and headroom despite its sleek design. It boasts a spacious 400-litre luggage compartment, a 50-litre front trunk and over 20 storage spaces within the cabin.
What is the global sales ranking of BYD?
It is now placed on the 10th spot in terms of global automaker sales, ahead of Mercedes-Benz and BMW in the first half of 2023. 1.25 million sales from January to June 2023 is nothing short of breathtaking, considering that sales doubled from the same period last year.
