CHANGSHA, CHINA - On August 21, 2024, BYD celebrated a significant milestone that underscores its ambitions in the luxury automotive augment with the factory roll-off of the right-hand-drive (RHD) Denza D9 at its Changsha manufacturing base in China. This momentous occasion was attended by key stakeholders, including BYD’s Asia-Pacific dealers, customer representatives, and journalists from Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Malaysia.

The Denza D9: A Benchmark in Electric Luxury

The Denza D9 is not just another electric vehicle; it is BYD's statement of intent in the luxury automotive market. Positioned as a premium electric vehicle, the Denza D9 offers a luxurious sensory experience, unparalleled safety, and smart interactive features. The vehicle is designed to redefine global mobility, providing a new level of luxury, comfort, and intelligent connectivity to customers worldwide.

At first glance, one could easily mistake the Denza D9 for a Toyota Alphard, albeit a sleeker, and more elegant version no less. Initial impressions do matter, and the Denza D9 stands out brilliantly with its clean-cut lines and commanding presence.

But the beauty of the Denza D9 is more than skin deep—it’s also a powerhouse of advanced technology and performance. Equipped with BYD's state-of-the-art Blade Battery, the Denza D9 offers an impressive 600 km range on a single charge. With a peak output of 268hp (200 kW) and 360 Nm of torque, the D9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds, making it not only luxurious but also brisk on the go. The fast-charging capability, allowing the battery to recharge from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes, ensures that this luxury MPV stands ready to meet the demands of a hectic calendar.

The Denza D9 boasts impressive dimensions as well, with a length of 5,250mm, a width of 1,960mm, and a height of 1,920mm—on par with similar vehicles in its class. Inside, the D9 offers a spacious interior with a 7.5-litre refrigerator (that can properly chill your champagne bottles), electric slide rails, and a 170mm-wide central aisle, all of which makes for a very spacious and comfortable cabin for all seven occupants. This is in-line with the D9’s "777" concept, to generously cocoon seven adults in the cabin, whilst providing adequate storage space, such as two full-sized golf bags.

And of course, the Denza D9 is adorned with Nappa leather on most soft-touch surfaces, with genuine wood veneers to boot, something you will not find in many luxury makes today. Talk about effortless luxury. So far so good!

A Strategic Move into the Southeast Asian Luxury Market

The introduction of the right-hand-drive Denza D9 is a strategic move by BYD to capture the growing demand for luxury MPVs in Southeast Asia. The region has seen a steady increase in demand for premium vehicles, a trend that the Denza D9 is well poised to ride. Previously showcased at the 2023 Bangkok International Motor Show, the Denza D9 garnered significant attention from international consumers and media, further solidifying its position as a strong contender in the luxury MPV market.

With its spacious interior, luxurious amenities, comfortable ride, and advanced intelligent features, the Denza D9 is expected to spark a new wave of demand for luxury electric-MPVs in the Asian market, and be a compelling alternative to petrol-powered luxury MPVs.

What’s Next For the Denza Brand In Singapore?

The factory roll-off of the right-hand-drive Denza D9 marks more than just the debut of a new luxury MPV; it symbolizes BYD's ambitious strategy to secure a dominant position in the luxury electric vehicle market across Southeast Asia. If the Denza D9 is priced competitively when it arrives in Singapore later this year, it has the potential to become a familiar presence on our roads, offering a compelling blend of luxury, performance, and sustainability. We look forward to sharing our first impressions from the initial test drive in Changsha—stay tuned for more!
