BMW 7 Series Wafts Back Into Town - Phev Model Gets New Engine

BMW’s flagship sedan returns sporting a new face, featuring a massive… massive grille; and a rear end which now carries a light bar that spans across, connecting the tail lamps. Other touches which distinguish the facelifted car, are the L-shaped tail lights, which BMW now implements on sedans and coupes, and are 35mm slimmer than the previous generation car. The L-shaped accent running along the side of the car, now has a more upright stance, which visually ties in with the 7’s design language of dominant verticality.

The entry 730Li features Adaptive LED Headlights with variable light distribution, adaptive and cornering light functions, and the BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling high-beam assistant as standard equipment, while other 7 Series variants include the BMW Laserlight feature as standard – this system employs a BMW Laserlight spotlight with Selective Beam to further optimise the high beam function, and is distinguishable with its blue elements.

BMW has also reworked the available selection of paints, new to their portfolio are Bernina Grey amber effect metallic, Royal Burgundy Red brilliant effect metallic, and Donington Grey metallic (available exclusively in conjunction with the M Sport package). Optionally available is the M Sport package with the extended BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line – it employs Dark Chrome for the BMW kidney grille, door opener inlays, exhaust tailpipe embellishers, and rear light trim elements. In addition, the kidney grille bars are painted in High-gloss Black.

For Singapore, the new 7 Series will only be offered in extended wheelbase guise (3,210mm), which means that rear occupants will enjoy added legroom and overall improved comfort. Constant with their new range of cars, the 7 Series also features their new and intuitive BMW Operating System 7.0 version of their BMW Live Cockpit Professional, comprising of a 12.3” digital instrument cluster and 10.25” Control Display. Improvements to the Control Display like the possibility of configuring up to ten pages, with each showing two to four tiles with live content. Controlling the system is through the familiar iDrive Controller, the steering wheel controls, touch control and gesture control.

In augmenting the user experience, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which responds to the prompt “Hey BMW” and adds more possibilities to the way users can interact with the 7 Seiries, from adjusting the climate control, activating the SatNav or flipping on Sports Mode.

Like the 3 Series and the X7, BMW has also introduced the ingenious Reversing Assistant to the 7 Series, which aids in reversing the car automatically in confined spaces, and replicates the steering movements done by the car for the last 50 meters.

The new 7 Series is available with the following models, 730Li, 740Li, and their plug-in hybrid (PHEV) 745Le, which now features a 6-cylinder engine, BMW’s all-wheel drive system known as xDrive, and innovative four-wheel steering.

I do hear that too that the V12 will be available as a special order.
