BMW 2 Series Coupe Lands In Singapore, Two Variants Available

BMW has adopted a more traditional approach (unlike the first-gen 2 Series Active Tourer when the brand decided to adopt its first front wheel drive setup), with an inline six cylinder petrol engine for the M240i, and a rear-wheel drive layout for the 220i. This is good news for keen drivers, as the M240i will be powered by no less than 374bhp and 500Nm (channeled to all four wheels) with its famed inline six layout. The “base-spec” 220i will adopt a more classic front-engined, rear wheel drive arrangement - a layout that promises a well-balanced (almost 50:50) chassis for maximum driver engagement. It is no slouch too, with the 2.0-litre engine producing 184bhp and 300Nm of torque. The M240i xDrive Coupé sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds, while the 220i Coupé takes 7.5 seconds.

The compact four-seater is built at the BMW Group’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico. It is now longer, lower and has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. Torsional rigidity has also increased by up to 12 percent compared to the previous generation, providing a platform for it to be more agile.

The BMW kidney grille now features vertically arranged air flaps in place of the classical bars. These open electrically when the engine behind the scenes has an increased need for cooling air. On the inside, sport seats come as standard - electrically adjustable sport seats (including a memory function on the driver’s side) will be for the 220i Coupé, while M Sport seats with head restraints will be fitted on the M240i xDrive Coupé.

Chassis components originally designed for the BMW 4 Series models were adapted for the 2 Series Coupé. 18-inch M light-alloy wheels will be fitted on the 220i, while the M240i xDrive Coupé will ride on 19-inch M light-alloy wheels.

Both driver and passengers will feature BMW Operating System 7. It is worth noting that the latest-gen 2 Series Active Tourer will feature the latest iDrive - Operating System 8. Smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) will come as standard.
