42% of Bentley’s sales today are of the Bentayga, so the Extended Wheelbase (EWB) version - which sees off competition from the likes of the Range Rover LWB and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan - will give Bentayga would-be buyers yet another strong reason to go for the Winged B.

But Bentley didn’t just extend the wheelbase by 180 mm and call it a day. In fact, in-depth engineering has been done for the vehicle to make it stand out enough for Bentley to call it the spiritual successor to the Mulsanne. For one, a nine digit investment was made by the brand to build the EWB. A total of 2,500 new parts were made just for the production of the car, and we can see why.

The panoramic roof, for example, has been repositioned rearwards by 125 mm so that the sky gazing experience of rear passengers is not compromised. Power close doors are available for the first time for the Bentayga in the EWB, understandably to help swing close those massive chunks of metal.

The highlight is perhaps the Airline Seat Specification, which is unique for its Auto Climate and Postural Adjustment functions. The former will adjust the seat temperature and humidity according to six different levels - so for example, if your bum for whatever reason is feeling particularly warm, the seat will cool it more for you. The latter subtly changes the shape of the seat to ease pressure points and prevent fatigue. The seats are available in 3 seating configurations - 4+1, four seat and five seat versions.

The exterior is largely unchanged save for vertical front grilles, as well as 22-inch wheels if you specify the Azure trim. Performance comes from the familiar twin turbo 4.0-litre V8 that is good for 550 PS and 770 Nm.

The Bentley Bentayga EWB Azure is available at $1,519,000 without COE and options.
