Baby Bear Maybe? The All New Skoda Karoq

We tested the Skoda Kodiaq a short while ago, and loved how the Czechs have thoughtfully worked out the little things, like a place to stow an umbrella, and even wonderful touches like mechanical door protectors.

With the launch of the new Skoda Karoq, the Czech brand now has another SUV available in Singapore’s Skoda lineup.

The Karoq features crystalline elements, which characterises Skoda’s new SUV design language. The compact SUV sports geometrically shaped LED headlamps, which also carry very neat homogeneous indicator and daytime running lights.

The Karoq also has a new VarioFlex rear seat system, where the entire row can be moved, or even removed, expanding the Karoq’s cargo room from an already very ideal 521 litres to a whopping 1,810 litres.

Powered by a state of the art 1.5 TSI engine, good for 150bhp and achieves its maximum twist of 250Nm from 1,500 to 3,500rpm. The engine also benefits from Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), which shuts off the firing of cylinders two and three, when the car is on cruise to up to speeds of 130km/h. With the ACT, the engine can save up to 0.5 litres of fuel per 100km. Adding to this, the Karoq’s 7-speed DSG transmission also allows the car to coast in Eco drive mode, as soon as the driver takes their foot off the accelerator pedal.

The Karoq is also equipped with a wide range of driver assistance systems, which rival those found higher segment vehicles, including Front Assist with city emergency brake, Front Assist with pedestrian monitor, Blind spot detect with rear traffic alert and Park distance control (PDC) to name a few.

The Karoq is available now, with prices starting from $112,900, including COE.
