After BMW confirmed it had given the X1 the go ahead, it was not going to be long before one of its rivals also showed what they had in store.
Audi has long been rumoured to have a mini-suv in the works. Word was that it was to be a three-door, but sources now indicate that the Q3 will have the typical four-door configuration.
The Q3 will be based on a longer and stronger version of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo chassis, and should have a body length of about 155 inches.
Possible engine options will include VW's 1.4-liter TFSI inline-four engine that can be had in a 125 horsepower and 150 hp versions, with North American versions also likely getting the 2.0 inline-four TFSI with an output of 200 hp. European models will have two two diesel engine variants: a 1.2-liter, 80hp turbodiesel, and a 1.6-liter TDI with up to 119 hp.
