Audi Begins Training its Engineers in Electric Mobility

The technology on Electric Mobility is set to become a key component in the automobiles of the next generation. To equip its powertrain development engineers with technical knowledge in the field of Electric Mobility, Audi AG has, in collaboration with educational experts from the Technical University of Ingolstadt (THI), designed a customised professional course for its engineers to broaden and deepen their technical expertise.

Spanning over three and a half, the course will be tailored closely to Audi's aspiration to keep the environment green and will include modules on “Electrical Machines and Power Electronics” and “Concepts for Electrified Vehicles and Energy Storage”. The course comprises classroom teaching and self-learning. The first batch of students will be completing their training in January 2017. Mr Oliver Hoffman, Head of Poweertrain Development, said: "We are working hard to accelerate the electrification of the Audi fleet. That’s why we need experienced employees with the best qualifications to support this transformation.”

The Audi Academy has also been instrumental in the success of the course. As the company's own training partner, the Audi Academy liaises with the individual technical departments on their employees’ training and qualifications in all key areas.

Mr Thomas Sigi, Board of Management Member for Human Resources at AUDI AG, emphasied: "The automotive industry is in a phase of transformation. With regard to strategic personnel planning, new expertise in the innovative areas of electrification, urbanization and digitization are now more important than ever before. That’s why we are increasingly prioritizing cooperation with the worlds of science and education.

Depending on the outcome of the colloboration betwwen Audi AG and THI, similar programs for other departments may be initiated. Audi has cooperated with the THI since 2004, for example in the context of endowed professorships and dual courses of study.
