Audi capitalises on the technology and aesthetics of the popular Audi A4 family and redevelops it to create two new cars, focusing on setting new benchmarks in the segment. The new A4 and A4 Avant was designed with a high priority in reducing CO2 emissions and reducing drive resistance. Last week, Audi launched the new A4 and A4 Avant in Singapore.

New look

Compared to previous cars in the A4 family, the new A4 is a bit larger at 4.73 meters long with a wheelbase of 2.82 meters. However, the overall weight has been reduced by up to 120 kilograms, making them one of the lightest in their class. A horizontal line on the front and rear ends of the vehicle emphasizes the car's width. The flowing design with concise lines is a nod to the brand's sporty elegance.

The front single frame grill is wide and low, and can feature headlights in LED and Matrix LED technology (which also includes dynamic turn indicators), to show the new cars' technology as part of its visual trademark.

Inside, occupants will immediately notice the generous interior space and the smooth lines, which once again puts an emphasis on the car's width. The front of the dashboard has a band of air outlets and a large decorative surface. During nightime, discreet contour lighting illuminate's the central console and doors.

For luggage, the new A4 Avant offers about 505 litres of storage space, the greatest in any premium model in its class. Rear seats can be folded down to expand the storage to a an impressive 1,505 liters.

Intelligent Tech

The new A4 and A4 Avant also features the new Audi MMI display and control concept, as well as a handful of technological highlights such as the Audi Virtual Cockpit, matrix LED headlights, smartphone interface, phone box with wireless charging, Band & Olufsen 3D Sound System, a heads-up display, and new driver assistance systems.

The Audi Virtual Cockpit and MMI Control Concept

The optional Audi Virtual Cockpit is a fully digital instrument that features a 12.3-inch LCD screen. It displays important information thru high-resolution graphics, providing as much detail as possible.

The MMI control concept found in the center console acts as the main control element fo the cars. This top-end infotainment system, MMI Navigation plus with MMI touch and a large 8.3-inch monitor, features a touchpand in the rotary controller to zoom in and out as well as enter characters. This feature also has an intelligent free-text search function. The new voice control system is also capable of understanding input in normal everyday language, such as "I want to call [name]".

Customers ordering a car with MMI Navigation will automatically receive the Audi connect hardware module, allowing their car to connect to the Interenet via the high-speed LTE network and act as a Wi-Fi hotpsot. This allows passengers to surf the Web and use their email using their mobile devices.

New Engine and Transmission

To achieve new standards, the A4 and A4 Avant uses a new-generation of 4-cylinder TFSI engines with newly-developed combustion methods. Both cars will be available with the new 1.4-lire, 140hp engine. A 2-litre, 252hp will be available in the near future.

The powertrain and the chassis of the new A4 and A4 Avant has undergone a complete redevelopment. The 7-gear S tronic has been redesigned, with the automatic transmissions now offering a fuel-saving "freewheeling" function. To help increase the performance of the font-wheel and 4-wheel drive, the new cars also feature a wheel-selective torque control system.

Sporty, but Comfortable

The new A4 and A4 Avant's suspension and steering filter makes it easier to manage uneven road surface while also giving the driver inmportant information such as tracking and increase in lateral force. This is made possible with the redeveloped five-link axles and electromechanical power steering. Further options include dynamic steering, which changes its ratio depending on the car's current speed and steering angle. Suspensions can also be set into either "sport" or "comfort" for an optimal smooth ride.

The Audi A4 and A4 Avant is now available at the Audi Centre Singapore with the following prices

Audi A4 1.4 TFSI S tronic – S$168,000

Audi A4 Avant 1.4 TFSI S tronic - S$182,400
