All-New Suzuki Swift Sport Now In Singapore

The much-anticipated new Suzuki Swift Sport comes to town, and we get treated to an afternoon on a go-karting track.  The new Suzuki Swift sport is powered by a 1.4 litre Boosterjet turbocharged engine, and unlike its Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) twin, it also gets help with 48V hybrid technology.  Suzuki’s small hot hatch here delivers 127hp and 235Nm, meaning that it still qualifies as a category A COE car, and retails at $109,900. For those with a class 3A, unfortunately the Swift Sport will only be sold with a 6-speed manual here, though we do know that elsewhere around the world, there is an automatic variant. Lab-tested fuel economy figures are already impressive, delivering 21.2km/l in combined cycle, and it clocks 100km/h in 9.1 seconds.

Since it poured quite heavily during the launch event, we could truly test the handling of the hot hatch around the KF1 circuit, which was closed off for the launch. The mild-hybrid system deployed in the Swift Sport helps with closing the gap where the turbocharger needs to spool up, delivering quite instant response. Putting it around tight go-kart friendly corners, reveals a suspension that is actually comfortable, yet able to keep those 195/45R17 tyres neatly planted on the tramac. According to their product guy, the Swift Sport is equipped with Monroe shock absorbers.

A few styling differences distinguish the Swift Sport from the bread-and-butter variant, from its staggered honeycomb grille, carbon fibre themed plastic trim, 17” rims and dual exhaust pipes.

Buyers can expect semi-bucket style front seats to keep their behinds in-place, and a unique feature for a manual here, adaptive cruise control is also included. The Swift Sport is equipped with the Suzuki Safety Support (ADAS) Suite, that includes features like a six-airbag system, Dual Sensor Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning and Weaving Alert.

New owners of the Swift Sport will also get a complimentary upgrade to Motul H-Tech 100plus OW-20 for their first year of servicing.

The new Suzuki Sport is available from today at Champion Motors.
