A Paradigm Shift: Lotus Eletre Arrives In Singapore
Wearnes Automotive, official franchise holder of the Lotus brand in Singapore since 2019, launches the Eletre, its first-ever all-electric SUV. Does this spell the beginning of the end of the ICE?
Over an intimate press luncheon, Lotus unveiled its first all-electric hyper SUV called the Eletre. The Eletre delivers a significant number of firsts for Lotus. Designed by a global team, it is the brand’s first five-door production car, first electric SUV, and most “inter-connected” car yet.
The Singapore market is poised to receive two different variants of the Eletre – the Eletre S and Eletre R. With 600 hp from a 112 kWh battery and twin-motors, the Eletre S will complete the century sprint in 4.5 seconds—impressive for a car weighing two-and-a-half tonnes. In case that isn’t enough to quench your thirst for speed, the Eletre R offers 900 hp on tap and will hit 100 km/h in less than three seconds. The Eletre S has an estimated range of 580 km (WLTP), with the higher-powered R variant rated at 500 km (WLTP). The car is also equipped with Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities, which can be made available to drivers via a remote software update, should local regulations allow in the future.
The Eletre will be offered in five main exterior colours, including the signature Solar Yellow and Blossom Grey, a light grey base with pink metallic flakes which give off a shimmering effect under light.
Inside, the car is generously adorned with Nappa leather all around, with a choice to opt for a four or five-seat layout. Its infotainment system, dubbed the Lotus Hyper OS, provides 5G connectivity and is powered by dual Qualcomm 8155 chips and Nvidia Orin chips—making it as powerful as the latest Sony Playstation 5. British audio maker KEF‘s 2160W, 23 speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos completes the immersive experience within the cabin.
Following the launch of the Eletre, Lotus expects to launch another mid-sized electric SUV in 2025 to bolster its offerings. While Lotus has widely signalled its intention to electrify its model lineup from 2028, diehard petrolheads need not lose hope, as Dan Balmer, regional director of Lotus Asia Pacific and Middle East, indicated that Lotus will continue to build the likes of the ICE-powered Emira, albeit in smaller, limited-run volumes.
Priced from S$598,800 for the Eletre S and S$693,800 for the Eletre R (excluding COE), Wearnes Automotive has opened its order books and expects to start delivering its first customer units at the end of 2023. Customers can also expect complimentary charging credits as well as 5-year servicing packages.
The Eletre can be viewed at the Lotus showroom at Level 5 Wearnes Tower, 45 Leng Kee Road.
