8 Things We Need To Know About The New McLaren W1
McLaren calls it the ultimate expression of a real supercar…
F1 and P1 successor
McLaren has unveiled the successor to its legendary supercars, the F1 and P1, marking a new chapter in its ‘1’ car lineage. This new model is designed with McLaren’s World Championship mentality and is built around the core principles that define a genuine supercar - performance, innovation, and exclusivity. It is a continuation of McLaren’s pursuit of excellence in the hypercar segment.
1,275PS!
Its V8 hybrid delivers 1,275PS, the highest power output in McLaren’s history and surpassing all core competitors. Its MHP-8 V8 combustion engine alone produces 928PS, achieving 233PS per litre, the highest output ever from a McLaren engine, with a rev limit of 9,200rpm.
Weighs next to nothing
Its E-module generates 347PS while integrating the electric motor and control unit to minimise weight and optimise space. The car weighs just 1,399kg, achieving an unprecedented power-to-weight ratio of 911PS per tonne - the best ever for any McLaren supercar.
Rear wing can extend by 300mm
Formula 1-inspired ground effect aerodynamics and a race mode transforms its character, lowering the ride height by 37mm at the front and 17mm at the rear while generating up to 1,000kg of downforce. An innovative McLaren Active Long Tail rear wing extends 300mm, along with multiple patented aerodynamic advancements.
0 to 200km/h in 5.8 seconds
It’s the fastest-accelerating and fastest-lapping road-legal McLaren ever, outpacing the Speedtail to 300km/h and finishing 3 seconds faster than the McLaren Senna on McLaren’s reference track. 0-200km/h is dealt with in just 5.8 seconds, and 0-300km/h in less than 12.7 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 350km/h. It’ll take some time for our brain to register these figures…
Hydraulic magic
The new McLaren Race Active Chassis Control III suspension, along with Race mode, have been tuned to cater to both road and track. It features enhanced feel and feedback through McLaren Hydraulic Performance Steering and hydraulic braking, creating an authentic supercar experience. Yes, that’s what we want to hear!
Carbonfibre monocoque
It uses an 8-speed transmission featuring E-reverse, alongside a new hydraulic electronic differential. Its bespoke Aerocell carbon fibre monocoque and Anhedral Doors are designed for optimal aerodynamic performance and utilise advanced motorsport construction techniques.
