5 Reasons Why The New Porsche Cayenne Is One Of the Most Extensive Product Upgrades in Porsche’s History
There’s more of everything in the new Cayenne - appropriately so to bolster Porsche’s best selling model.
All’s good when Porsche releases heart-thumping specials like the 992-gen 911 GT3 RS or the 911 Dakar, but it’s the SUVs that form the bread and butter of the brand’s business. 95,604 Cayenne deliveries were made in 2022, followed by the Macan with 86,724 units shipped. Whoever was tasked with the new Cayenne has got some pretty big shoes to fill, as it's in charge of keeping the brand afloat, literally.
The temptation to keep a tried and tested recipe untouched is real, given the tremendous responsibility of this assignment. After all, some would argue that aesthetic tweaks of Porsches through generations resemble those of yesterday’s rice rehashed as today’s meal. While that’s no bad thing given its esteemed following, the fact that Porsche labels this third-gen Cayenne as an “extensive product upgrade” made us sit up and listen. Let’s dig in…
Revised cabin
A revised display and control concept in the new Cayenne was first introduced in the Taycan. The lever located behind the steering wheel now has additional functions for operating driver assistance systems. The automatic transmission selector lever is now on the dashboard. For the first time, a 10.9-inch display is available for the passenger side, displaying performance data, separate access to the infotainment system controls and, depending on the market, the option of streaming video content on the road.
Future forward
Even by non-Porsche standards, you can tell that this is the new Cayenne right from the off. Maybe. Wings are more arched, the bonnet more defined and both head and taillight assemblies redesigned. Visual presence will be further amplified by all Cayennes now equipped with at least 20-inch rims, up to 22-inchers. Surely the Taycan has got a part to play in proceedings…
Matrix LED Headlights on all Cayennes
Matrix LED Headlights are now standard in the new Cayenne. HD Matrix LED Headlights are a new optional feature. With two high-definition modules and more than 32,000 pixels per headlamp, their technology picks out other users and blocks out the light of the high beam to them with pixel accuracy so as not to dazzle them. Brightness of the modules can be regulated in more than 1,000 steps depending on the driving situation.
New 2-valve suspension setup
Porsche now equips the Cayenne at the factory with a steel spring suspension including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). New shock absorbers with 2-valve technology and thus separate rebound and compression stages allow optimised performance in all driving situations.
More power in all 3 variants, duh!
While it remains to be seen which variants will land in Singapore, all of them will (expectedly) have more oomph than its predecessor. A 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 replaces the V6 in the Cayenne S. 2 more cylinders in a car announced in 2023 surely is a cause for celebration. The base Cayenne will be equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 turbo and the E-Hybrid will use the base Cayenne’s engine, alongside a 25.9kWh battery to give it an additional 90km (WLTP) of electric range.
