4th Generation Honda Jazz Debuts In Singapore. Retains Versatility, Hybrid Drivetrain Added To Range.

The Jazz is one of Honda’s most successful models here since it was introduced back in the early part of the 2000s. A combination of creative versatility, packaged in a small hatchback, coupled with the fuel-sipping capabilities of its available drivetrains, and of-course Honda’s well-documented reliability has made the Jazz almost a household name among first-time buyers, or those who simply prefer a frugal, well-built small car. On 28 January, Kah Motor, Honda’s distributor here unveiled the all-new Jazz hatchback. The fourth generation car is easily distinguishable by its flat nose, and is now available in three variants.

The Base and the middle-of-the-pack Home models, are both powered by a 1.5 litre twin overhead camshaft multiport fuel-injected engine, featuring Honda’s famed i-VTEC variable valve timing; delivering 121ps and 145Nm. Drive through the front wheels is via their Earth Dreams CVT, delivering 5.7 l/100km.

The range-topping Jazz model, the Luxe e-HEV also gets a 1.5 litre iVTEC engine, but with a higher compression ratio, and benefits from a Dual-Motor iMMD hybrid drive system. The Luxe e-HEV makes slightly more power at 126ps, but significantly more torque at 253Nm. With the hybrid drivetrain, the Jazz e-HEV returns 3.9l/100km, and is awarded an A2 VES rating.

All Jazz models new have a 9” Touchscreen Display and are Apple and Android mobile friendly; the e-HEV also benefits from a more premium 8-speaker audio system. All Jazz models now feature a digitised instrument cluster, for even more flexibility in displaying the car’s drive data.

The new Jazz, like the predecessor cars, has its fuel tank situated in the middle, to facilitate their ULTRA Seats, which are configurable to allow taller items to be loaded just behind the front seats, just by lifting the rear seat bases; and can also be folded flat, with the carrying space of a small van.

The Honda Sensing active safety suite that is available only with the Luxe e-HEV model, utilises a wide angle high-definition camera to scan the road in-front of the car, and adds an additional layer of protection. The system tracks, warns and even corrects the steering when it detects that you are out of your lane. This also adds adaptive cruise control capabilities to the range-topping Jazz, and even intervenes when a possible collision is detected.

The new Honda Jazz retails from $98,999 for the Base, $101,999 for the better-equipped Home model, and $103,999 for the Luxe e-HEV, after the VES A2 “discount”.
