BMW Asia has announced the launch of the all-new 4th-generation BMW 1 Series, marking 20 years since its debut in the premium compact segment. You might already have familiarised with the spicier M135 xDrive launched in November last year - here’s a more attainable option that retains all advantages associated with hatchbacks.

Useful hatchback proportions

Length has increased by 42mm, while the width is measured at 1,800mm. Height is up by 25mm to 1,459mm. Built on a front-wheel-drive architecture, it offers ample space for up to five passengers and luggage despite its compact size.

M Sport-equipped

Its standard M Sport package boasts a sleek design featuring air intakes, M-specific side skirts, a 3D rear diffuser and 18-inch M alloy wheels. A black body surround enhances its low, dynamic stance.

BMW OS 9

As with most BMWs, BMW Curved Display is present, alongside the new BMW iDrive powered by Operating System 9. Digitalisation reduces physical buttons, and the central control panel, including the gear selector, has been redesigned.

Up to 1,200 litres of storage

There’s spacious seating for 5, with electric seat adjustments standard for the driver and foldable rear seats (40:20:40) to expand luggage space from 380 to 1,200 litres.

3-cylinder turbo makes 122hp

Front-wheel drive and a 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission deliver smooth performance (122hp allows it to be Cat A-eligible), with the 116 accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds.
