2023 Toyota GR Corolla Details Were Leaked Before Launch!
By the time you access this story, Toyota would have already revealed details of its GR Corolla in a livestream scheduled at 9.30am SGT on 1 April. But juicy details and images have already made its rounds on the internet a day before the official announcement. An “unfortunate” scenario for Toyota, and for petrolheads this meant a little less anticipation before the actual reveal - not a bad thing at all because it looks as stunning as teased images, with big numbers and appropriate specs to match.
According to the staging site that was taken down a few hours before the livestream event, the GR Corolla churns out 300bhp and packs 273 pounds feet (370Nm) of torque from a 1.6-litre three cylinder turbocharged engine. Comparatively, the GR Yaris has 268bhp and the same amount or torque. A six-speed manual transmission was indicated (and no automatic option was mentioned).
Power is sent to all four wheels through a GR-Four all-wheel drive setup, which can supposedly allocate torque in a fair 50/50 fashion, or even switch to a rear-biased 30/70 ratio if required. Three driving modes are available - Normal, Sport and Track.
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres were publicised, although it is yet to be seen if local units will be specced with these rubbers. Front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials could also be fitted on the first batch of GR Corollas.
Update: We approached Borneo Motors (Singapore) but no additional information was provided - we will be sure to check back in once we have details, including how many will be allocated for the Singapore market, if any!
