2021 Hyundai Avante - Fastback-like Styling To Flow With The Times

Hyundai reveals the 2021 Avante, the brand’s best-selling compact in Singapore. With the shifting of customer preferences, the Korean automotive manufacturer has responded with a coupe-inspired sedan; what Hyundai terms a “Parametric Dynamics” design theme. In a simpler context, many angular lines which converge.  The Avante’s dynamic styling is the result of Luc Donckerwolke’s (of Volkswagen Group and Lamborghini fame) efforts to style cars which will attract.

Longer, Lower, and Wider

The seventh-generation Hyundai Avante features a longer wheelbase, and sits lower and wider. In placing emphasis on the car’s stance, the new wide-cascading grille now gets more “facetime” , and shares its space with the partially integrated headlamps. Bold side profile penwork complements rear-end styling, which features a lightbar, which is similar to those found on the Audi A8 and A7 cars, particularly the latter.

In keeping in-sync with its new dramatic exterior styling, the aircraft inspired cockpit is framed by a bold surround, which includes a grab handle for the front passenger. What is promisingly impressive too, are the twin 10.25” glass multimedia screens.

The infotainment will support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and we can be certain that a wireless charging pad will be available.

Driver-friendly features, like adaptive cruise control would likely see the light of day in Singapore. An enhanced natural-language voice-recognition system with Speech-to-Meaning and Deep Meaning Understanding technologies will also be a first for the brand in this segment. We would however, be interested to see if the flexibility of car usage, brought on by Hyundai’s optional Digital Key, which allows you to unlock your vehicle via a smartphone will make its way into our local lineup.

Engine variants at the moment are not fully firmed up, but we guess, we would likely see them field a 1.6 litre N/A engine, hopefully this time with their all-new Smartstream tech, which features their new and innovative Continuously Variable Value Duration or CVVD.

What is confirmed though, is a hybrid variant, the first Avante/Elantra to be fitted with the drivetrain. This will be in the form of a 1.6 litre Atkinson cycle unit, and further helped by a 32kW motor.
