2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Launched - Youthful, Dynamic and Loaded with Tech

The new fourth generation A-Class ups the game for its entry-class car. The small hatch boasts a visually aggressive stance with equally aggressive frontal treatment. The styling of the new car will definitely set the tone for the rest of the cars to come in the A-Class family. Going up against the likes of BMW’s 1 Series and Audi’s A3, the new car sports a longer wheelbase. Together with a character line which runs along the side of the car, the new A-Class is physically and visually longer than the preceding model. Styling elements which have been carried over from large “Merc’ like its turbine-influenced air-conditioning vents and a bold move, the cowl which traditionally covers the instrument cluster has been dispensed with. The new “snowboard” styled 10.25-inch all-digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central media display with touchscreen operation are also design carryovers from its larger siblings.

MBUX - Mercedes-Benz User Experience

Also new to the A-Class, and first in the Mercedes-Benz range is the new MBUX - Mercedes-Benz User Experience, which is designed to deliver a customisable user experience, and creates an emotional connection between the vehicle, driver and passengers. The new touchscreen system has also been coded with natural speech recognition, and is activated with the code word “Hey Mercedes”. The system complements the touchpad on the centre console and touch control buttons in the steering wheel.

An ‘A’ for Size

The new A-Class boasts more shoulder, elbow and headroom and improved access to the rear. Also available as an option on the new car is its Multicontour Seat Package with a massage effect, on its front seats. Side bolsters and lumbar support can be individually adjusted by an electrically driven pneumatic pump. A massage effect in the lumbar area is provided by air chambers.

All-round visibility has also considerably been improved on. Luggage capacity is also 29 litres more than its predecessor, at 370 litres, and with a luggage floor that has been extended by 11.5cm
