10th Generation Honda Accord Now With Right-Sized Engine

The new 10th generation Honda Accord is longer, wider and lighter than the one it replaces. While other Japanese brands in this segment have stuck to traditional NA engines, Honda has bucked the trend by going down the path of right-sizing. Their 1.5 litre turbocharged engine, first seen in their CRV and Civic, provides the drive. Power is rated at 201PS and maximum torque of 260Nm is delivered within an impressive band of between 1,600rpm to 5,000rpm. This is done with the help of a low-inertia turbocharger, Honda’s legendairy VTEC technology and high-accuracy direct injection. An overall 84kg has been shed from its new structure, by employing the use of ultra-high-strength steel to 29 percent of its body, the most to date in any mass-produced Honda.

Passengers in-front benefit from improved head and hip room, and rear seats have also been moved substantially rearward, providing passengers with an additional 2 inches of legroom. Cargo room has also been increased to 570 litres.

Space is not the only improvement, Honda has also paid attention to the tactile and visual quality of surface materials, which contributes to what they’d like to call a soft-spoken elegance throughout the cabin.

The infotainment unit is fronted by an 8” Display Audio touchscreen interface, featuring smartphone-like intuitivity, customisable apps, and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A wireless charging pad is also included as standard.

Behind the wheel, there is an addition of an ultra-slim 7-inch TFT driver’s meter for added flexibility in delivering information. A suite of Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technologies are standard equipment. This includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBSTM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Following (LSF).

Additional available driver-assistive technologies like a 360-degree Camera with Smart Parking Assist System and Cross Traffic Monitor, are just some driver aids you can expect in the new Accord.

The new Honda Accord is priced at $158,999*, inclusive of COE, and goes up against some stiff competition from the likes of the Mazda 6, Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Passat and Toyota Camry.
