What Interesting Cars Can You Rent On Carousell?

No strings attached - there’s still a strong appetite for daily rentals!

Despite the proliferation of PHV and ride sharing services in Singapore, there’s still a demand for daily car rentals in the more traditional sense. Pick up the car, the clock starts ticking, and off you go wherever you want before returning to the pick up location with a tank full of fuel.

Are daily car rentals in Singapore worth it?

Sure, the drawbacks can sometimes outweigh advantages - requested vehicles might not be in tip top shape or the time pressure might raise anxiety levels. But on the flipside, it opens up to selections of more types and generations of cars, without committing to month-long (some stretch as far as 6 months!) leasing programs and hefty downpayments. The daily car rental scene is still thriving - here are some examples of interest…

Porsche Panamera

Daily rate: S$135

This 3.6-litre V6-equipped Porsche Panamera can be had for a flat fee of S$135 per day, which amounts to less than S$35 per pax if 3 other passengers agree to jump on the bandwagon. Not many sedans can manage to blend sportiness and luxury - with a seamless 7-speed PDK gearbox it doesn’t take much to uncork its potential.

The newest generation Panamera might be landing anytime now in Singapore - you might as well sample this 970.2 to understand what made the Panamera so iconic in only one and a half decades.

Audi R8

Daily rate: S$138

Arrivals of performance EVs were nothing short of breathtaking - electrified flagships from Hyundai and Tesla have pushed numbers way beyond our wildest imagination, leaving question marks for “aging” V8s like the one found in the Audi R8. But we are not swayed by these EVs that will only push boundaries further than what we can cope with. Supercars are here to stay, and the R8 represented the cream of the crop in the mid noughties.

Production might have just ceased in Q1 this year, but it will be fondly remembered even by those who doubted Audi’s sporting credentials. Audi has racked up 13 wins at 24 Hours of Le Mans - here’s your chance to drive an icon for 24 hours.

Modified Mitsubishi Lancer

Daily rate: S$100

Here’s a quirky alternative. Ever wondered how it's like to drive a modified car? Experience one without the hassle of maintaining it. Sure, this stage 1-tuned 1.5-litre Mitsubishi Lancer is no Evo X, but souped-up cars seldom appear on car rental listings.

Seems like all concerns have been addressed - no deposit, no minimum driving experience and you’re allowed to drive it to Malaysia. Just be careful if your neighbours are easily agitated - ad claims that the HKS exhaust is “LOUD”. Well, they just have to endure it for a day, right?

BMW 7 Series

Daily rate: S$288

The rate might be surprising to some, but that’s because it’s listed as a wedding car. Assuming it’s used exclusively for weddings, a driver should be included, as verified by happy customers in the comments section. Just take a look at the rear legroom - the F02 7 Series (long wheelbase version) was a more natural path of progression for those keen on being driven.

The first ever public reveal for this 7 Series was at the Red Square in Moscow in 2008 - no prizes for guessing the target market and sheer demand of luxo-haulers in Russia, in a period where most are reeling from the effects of the global financial crisis.
