What Cars Can We Drive With Carousell Car Subscription?
Carousell’s partnership with Carzuno allows subscribers to choose from at least 50 different cars.
With the proliferation of subscription-based business models largely due to popularity of streaming services, it comes as no surprise that other industries have caught on to the trend. You can now subscribe to almost anything under the sun - meal kits, beauty products and even clothing. It’s therefore not unusual for the automotive world to adopt this strategy, given that it’s arguably more flexible than car rental.
Carousell Car Subscription makes plenty of sense in Singapore. With COE premiums alone that can cost four times the retail price of the same car in other markets (let that sink in), the entry barrier is set much higher than our comfort levels (and pockets) can stomach. There is still light at the end of the tunnel - this service by Carousell starting from less than S$2,000 per month affords the subscriber at least 50 different types of cars to choose from.
Imagine subscribing to a Kia Cerato sedan for 6 months, and swapping it out for a Nissan Qashqai for the next 6 months without needing to bother about any car ownership-related admin. Key costs are factored in, like insurance and road tax, maintenance and servicing. And depreciation will never be a responsibility for you to resolve.
An apple to apple comparison with car rental schemes or even exploring Carousell Certified Cars might be a stretch - each serves a different set of clientele. Subscription arrangements carry plenty of advantages as mentioned above. Let’s take a look at what cars you can drive at various price points. *It must be mentioned though that pricing tiers are dependent on duration.
Less than S$2,000 per month
Perennial workhorses steal the show here, and for very good reason. This scheme offers unlimited mileage, and cars on offer should be tough as nails. For a minimum subscription of 12 months, a 1.3-litre Honda Fit can be had for S$1,799 per month. Or top top S$100 more monthly for 2 more seats - bang for buck ratio for the 1.8-litre Toyota Wish is unmatched.
S$2,000 to S$3,000 per month
We’ve hit the sweet spot in the pricing tier - more than 50% of cars offered fall within this bracket. Fans of Volvos can look forward to a petrol-powered Volvo V40 T2 hatchback (S$2,199 per month) and a diesel-propelled V60 1.6T (S$2,299 per month). Those who prefer safer bets can choose cars such as a 2.0-litre Toyota Harrier (S$2,699 per month) or the non-hybrid 2.5-litre Toyota Camry for the same fee. Feeling adventurous? The Honda E (S$2,999 per month) could feed this need for instantaneous speed.
S$3,000 per month onwards
Sure, this amount is a tough pill to swallow for some, even more so when most require you to secure at least a 12 month subscription. But here are definitely some decent cars you might have second thoughts owning for the long term, but very keen to try for a short while. A Mercedes-Benz GLC250 at S$3,899 per month might be tempting for some. Or opt for the lux-limo route and drive (or be driven in) a long wheelbase, 3.0-litre BMW 740Li.
