The A6 Avant is an attractive station wagon that combines the sharp lines, large surfaces, and the distinctive low-profile rear window that displays the new design language of the brand.
With its low front end and gentle sloping roofline, the 4.94 meter-long A6 Avant emanates elegance, sophistication, and sportiness.
Dominating the front is a wide, low Singleframe grille while the elongated wagon silhouette and its trapezoidal window surfaces at both ends dominate its side view.
A muscular roofline flows into the low-profile D-pillar and its roof edge spoiler extends its silhouette, highlighting the sporty look of the A6 Avant. At the rear, a decorative trim sits at the bottom of its dynamic turn LED signal lights. Apart from the twelve paint colours to choose from, customers will have the option to select the sport and design exterior equipment lines and the S line exterior package.
The new Audi A6 Avant has an even larger interior than its predecessor, as its body is 4.94 meters long, 1.89 meters wide, and 1.47 meters high. This gives the driver and passengers more elbow room, and the rear passengers can enjoy even more leg and knee space.
Despite its sporty silhouette, the size of the new A6 Avant’s spacious luggage compartment is retained from its predecessor. With the backrests folded down, the flexible luggage compartment can be extended to an additional 1,115 litres as compared to the standard configuration (565 litres). The tailgate and luggage compartment is opened electrically, with an optional sensor control available for the tailgate. For the optional trailer hitch, an electric release function is available.
All of the new A6 Avant’s luggage compartments come with the proven rail system. Customers can then individually place four variable lashing points in order to secure their equipment or objects. A tensionsing strap, a net, as well as two hooks will also be provided. The load-securing kit with telescopic bar and strap comes as an option to allow individual sectioning of the luggage compartment.
Aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of the A6 Avant are top-class, providing a low interior noise level with a 0.27 drag coefficient. The steel and aluminium body components provide an additional rigidity to the vehicle.
A comprehensive package of safety systems is provided with every A6 Avant, including lighting technology, passive safety, and assistance systems.
Three versions of the LED headlights are available with the HD Matrix headlights with high-resolution high beam as its top-of-the-line range. This option also comes with five horizontal lines that draw the signature daylight running light. The distinctive dynamic turn signal and pulsating coming-home and leaving-home sequences further reemphasises the unique character of the A6 family. Contour ambient lighting package is also available as an option that brings the interior to life.
The A6 Avant has frequent driver and commuters in mind when it developed its extensive range of driver assistance systems. On top of the standard emergency braking assist, it also includes an adaptive cruise assist with narrowed road assistance. It supports both lateral and longitudinal in stop-and-go traffic right down to a full stop and at driving speeds up to 250 kilometers per hour supporting the driver by accelerating and braking. The assistance system also aids in maintaining the set speed and enforcing a safe distance to the vehicle ahead in congestions and in narrowed roads.
A6 Avant adaptive cruise assist predictively factors in the considerations of speed limits, bends, roundabouts, and turnings. Haptic feedback is also provided through the active gas pedal. Alongside the MHEV system, these driver assistance functions can help to improve fuel efficiency.
Visual, acoustic, or haptic warnings are also part of the emergency assist system that recognises when the driver fails to act, taking over to turn on the hazard warning lights and bringing the A6 to a halt in its own lane. The safety system also activates Audi pre sense protection measures, including seat belt tensioning, window closing, and activating an emergency call.
These safety features use data from five radar sensors, five cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and the laser scanner that continuously capture and process the car’s surroundings.
The mild hybrid technology improves efficiency and reduces fuel consumption. The heart of the MHEV system is the belt alternator starter that recovers up to 12 kW with the 48V system during braking, and feeds the electricity into an isolated lithium-ion battery. The new Audi A6 Avant can coast between 55 and 160 km/h with the engine switched off.
The A6 Avant engines show off their power with a seven-speed S tronic or an eight-speed tiptronic, and the quattro all-wheel drive. The optional sport mode actively distributes the power between the rear wheels when turning and cornering at speed.
As compared to its predecessor, the suspension on the new A6 Avant provides an even larger spread between comfort and dynamics. The standard progressive steering provides a sporty steering ratio and the new controls for the electromechanical steering offers intensive feedback from the road while eradicating jolts from the steering wheel. The dynamic all-wheel steering can be added as an option, improving the manoeuvrability of the A6 Avant, its agility when cornering, and the driving stability at speeds above 60km/h.
Four suspension variants are available: the sport suspension, the standard steel-spring suspension, the suspension with shock absorber control, and the adaptive air suspension also with controlled shock absorbers. Drivers can adjust the settings for all of the controlled suspensions in the Audi drive select dynamic handling system.
Stylish, minimalist architecture combines perfectly with the operating concept. The 10.1-inch black panel surface is angled slightly toward the driver, embedded with the MMI touch response display. On top of the basic version, four equipment lines are available: sport, design, design selection, and the S line sport package.
Seats in the Audi A6 Avant were also completed redesigned. The top-of-the-line range includes the customised contour front seats with a plethora of adjustment functions. Customers can even choose to have their seats fitted with massage and ventilation functions, and the S sport seats with integrated head restraints.
Two different fragrances and ionizer as part of the air quality package can be added as an option, along with the large panoramic glass sunroof and adaptive windshield wipers with integrated washer jets on the rear and windshield window.
Infotainment and navigation can be accessed on the top display, while the 8.6-inch display below is reserved for climate control, text input, and comfort functions.
An optional MMI navigation plus is on the top-of-the-line component in the infotainment range for the A6 Avant. The data transfer module incorporates a WiFi hotspot and supports the LTE Advanced standard. Based on previous journeys, the navigation system has the ability to generate intelligent suggestions, calculating routes on the servers of service providers.
To top it off, the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System delivers amazing 3D sound through 19 loudspeakers, including those in the rear.
