The Skoda Superb finally made its local debut yesterday evening at its new showroom located at 3 Leng Kee Road.

Despite being almost identical in overall length to the previous Superb, this new Superb exceeds the already generous interior measurements of its predecessor in almost all aspects thanks to the transverse engine design. This begins in the front, where space has been gained by moving the gear position - the central tunnel has been designed in a much leaner form. In the rear, the knee space has been increased by 19mm.

The unique and patented "twin door" variable boot opening, designed by Skoda's engineer, offers a practical and functional solution. Depending on what is required, either only the boot lid alone can be opened when smaller items are to be stored, or by operating the switch on the edge of the boot lid to activate the electro-mechanical release, to open the boot together with the windscreen.

The boot will accomodate 565-litres of luggage but once the seats are folded forward, the volume increases to 1,670-litres.

Two variants will be made available - the 7-speed 160bhp Superb 1.8 (A) that retails for $89,800, and the 6-speed 256bhp Superb V6 (A) that retails for $118,800.
