Kah Motor Co, our local distributor for Honda, unveiled the all-new Accord. Those who have been scouting for a new car, and have hopped into Honda’s showrooms, might have gotten an early glimpse of Honda’s D-Segment sedan.
This round, the Accord is offered here as a just one model, which features the smallest engine on offer, a 1.5 litre turbocharged unit with Honda’s signature VTEC (variable valve timing and lift technology), and delivers more grunt than the previous 2.4 litre engine.
Delivery of its 201ps and 260Nm from 1,600 to 5,000rpm, is through the front wheels via a CVT transmission. Rightsizing of the engine and its transmission pairing returns the Accord a better-than-decent 15.6km/l in combined cycle.
The infotainment system, fronted by an 8” screen, features SatNav and supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto. For those who have QI compatible devices, the Accord also has a wireless charging dock. Rear passengers can also charge their devices through two USB charging points.
Behind the wheel, a new 7” digital instrument cluster provides the drive information feed. A new larger interior, in-part thanks to a longer wheelbase, as compared to the previous Accord, promises improved passenger comfort, and legroom. Boot space has also been improved upon, now offering an impressive 570 litres, 120 litres more than the car it replaces.
Honda Sensing, which is a suite of preventive and reactive safety technologies, helps with improving on the daily commute through Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF), by keeping the car’s speed in-check with the vehicle in-front. The same set of sensors also helps to prevent collisions through its Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) which helps you to brake if a possible collision is detected.
Other conveniences like its 360 camera helps you in getting out of tight spots. Honda’s Lanewatch System, utilises a camera which points to your blind spot, further helping to prevent any mishaps.
The new Honda Accord competes with similar-sized sedans like the turbocharged Skoda Superb, Mazda 6 and Toyota Camry; both Japanese makes are powered by naturally aspirated engines, while the Opel Insignia does have a frugal 1.6 litre turbodiesel on offer.
The new Honda Accord is available now at $160,999*
