Another Weiss choice from the automaker

Porsche unveiled its most powerful naturally aspirated engine – a world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show – in the form of the 911 GT3 RS. Up at four-litres, the sonorous six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine delivers 520hp and 470Nm of torque while going up to a Vitas-pitch redline at 9000 rpm (which is 20hp and 200rpm more than its predecessor 911 GT3 RS).

The tamer 911 ”homologation” cousin of the Weissach insane GT2 RS is the 3rd GT car to roll out of Stuttgart in less than 12 months. Normally in such balanced “track & road” serious cars, there would be a manual option – but not so for the GT3 RS. A well-proven specially calibrated 7-speed PDK-only setup ensures a blistering launch timing of 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds.

Similar to the predecessor 992’s Viper Green launch colour, the Lizard Green body with black details and decals on the GT3 RS follow tradition and win a tick for the purists – and even pull off an eco-friendly disguise in the process. The symbiotic green-black combination continues in the interiors, from carbon seat upholstery to steering wheel stitching and even the seat belts.

Apart from the pointy winglets on the spoiler, aerodynamic details such as front fender louvers directing air towards the rear wheel air intakes, bonnet NACA ducts that cool brakes without increasing drag as well as channelled roof are on par with the GT2 RS. As the wing works in tandem with the rear underbody diffuser, the GT3 RS has twice the downforce over a regular GT3 when going flat out at nearly 200 km/h.

Front 20-inch lightweight wheels combine newly developed 265/35 sports tyres while rear 21-inch wheels rightfully maintain a wider 325/30 profile. Coupled with a new suspension that features a recalibrated rear axle steering, improved traction and agility become notable improvements over its predecessor.

The distinct roll-over bars that make the GT3 RS very identifiable come as part of the free-to-upgrade Clubsport package, as with all GT sports cars. It also includes a manual fire extinguisher, preparation for a battery disconnect switch and a six-point seat belt for added safety and seriousness.

The optional Weissach package that gets into further weight-reduction territory features additional carbon components for the chassis, interior and exterior as well as optional magnesium wheels. At its lightest configuration, the 911 GT3 RS weighs only 1,430 kilograms.
