Penang, here we come!

Penang, here we come!

The journey arduous. The distance impossible. Will the drivers of the Oneshift team cope with the demands of a trip that will take some 12 hours to complete?

And during the next two days that we were there, we rewarded ourselves by shopping and eating around the rustic but beautiful Penang island. We bought the famous “tao sah pia” from Him Heang; Savored and survived from eating Penang laska from some road side store with flies swarming around us; Shopped around Komptar and the night bazaar of Batu Ferringhi for good bargains!

We basically eat what we can, shop what we can while we were there.

Dinner @ Batu Ferringhi

On Sunday morning, we took the Penang ferry back to the mainland and being the mountain tortoises that we were, we roamed around excitedly on the ship while the rest of the Malaysian drivers looked bored.

The final highlight that I would like to share with you on this trip is the lunch stop over we had at Gerik in Perak. If my memory serves me correctly, we had quite a sumptuous meal comprising of steamed river fish, stir-fried frogs, stir-fried brinjal, stir-fried tapioca leaves and wild boar meat. “Yue1 Ming2 Can1 Shi4” is the name of the restaurant in hanyu pinyin. Do drop by for a meal if you are ever in the vicinity!

Are you hungry yet?

But of course, all good things do have to come to an eventual end. And on Monday morning 1:15am, the last of the Oneshift Penang rounding team crossed the border back into Singapore, officially ending the wonderful 3 days of driving excitement to Penang and back.

And this is our story. Our Oneshift story.
