The Volvo V60 has been around since 2011 and is due for an upgrade. Just last week, Volvo has unveiled its new five-door V60, a mid-size premium wagon. The launch took place in its natural element – a family’s driveway in Stockholm – to demonstrate its versatility and how the car caters to the needs of the modern family.

Replacing the seven-year model, the V60 shares Volvo Cars’ Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform with the XC60 and the 90 series cars. The new V60 with the SPA features provides more luxurious interior design and space, advanced connectivity technologies, as well as Volvo Cars’ newest advanced driver support systems and range of safety technologies.

While the exterior of the new V60 seems to be a scaled version of the V90, it also adopted several design features from the XC60. Volvo’s signature “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlamps are a little bit more sculpted and its front is styled more aggressively as compared to the face of the V90.

In reinforcing Volvo Cars’ worldwide reputation in safety, the new V60 is built with the City Safety pack with Autobrake technology that can detect cyclists, pedestrians, and even large animals to assist the driver in automatic emergency breaking to avoid potential accidents.

Volvo’s semi-autonomous Pilot Assist driving system that helps to support the driver with steering, acceleration, and braking on marked roads up to 130km/h has also received an upgrade from the 2011 version with improved cornering performance. Some of its other steering assist technology includes the oncoming lane and run-off road mitigation that gently steers the car away from the centre and edge of the road. The Cross Traffic Alert with automatic braking further enhances safety for people inside and outside the car comes as an added option.

The Sensus infotainment is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G, keeping its drivers well connected at all times. The intuitive tablet-style touch screen within the vehicle is the control for various car functions, navigation, connected services, and entertainment applications.

In line with Volvo Cars’ bid to electrify all new cars from 2019, there are two plug-in hybrid powertrain options in the new V60: a T6 Twin Engine AWD petrol plug-in hybrid that delivers 340hp or the more powerful T8 Twin Engine AWD that generates 390hp.

An upgrade from the previous model’s T4 engines, the regular petrol only version offers T5 and T6 powertrains. With the all-new V60 now unveiled, look out for the T5 variant that will land in Singapore in early 2019.

* Do note that Care by Volvo that allows customers to access the new V60 via a premium subscription service rather than ownership is only available in Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA and will not be introduced in Singapore.
