Market Watch: Here Are Some Of The Most Expensive Cars Listed On Carousell

In other words, depreciation of these pre-owned cars in Singapore will blow your mind

We’ve already heard of EV sales in most markets not performing as well as the previous year, which could boil down to two broad factors. Either the initial new tech “itch” has been scratched by early adopters, or the general public simply isn’t ready for full electrification just yet. Well, just look at price wars by Chinese EV manufacturers - on one hand we hope this doesn’t end, while on the flipside we wonder how healthy this situation really is.

There’s no such worry in the rarefied end of the scale. Ultraluxury segments withstand the test of time. Customers shopping for the finest cars would have cross shopped with luxury yachts and private jets, as they’ve gone beyond what cars can offer. It’s all about the definition of superluxury, which these cars happen to possess in spades. Oh yes, they have jaw dropping price tags and depreciation (no thanks to our vehicle tax system) to match.

2019 Bentley Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase

Price: S$1,190,000 / S$171,004 depreciation per year

Ad claims that it’s the only stretched Mulsanne in the market, and given that this 2019 model represents one of the last few manufactured in the Crewe production line (Mulsanne’s production spanned from 2010 to 2020), it’s not going for cheap. For the “EWB” there’s 25cm more rear legroom, extending leg rests and a rear sunroof.

At nearly 6 metres long (a Suzuki Swift is more than 2 metres shorter), it can house some of the most customised features found in a vehicle, like standard electric privacy curtains and optional picnic tables. Our mind still can’t comprehend that each car requires “over 400 hours of supreme skill and attention to detail to craft”. Well, we’re not the target buyers, but you might be!

2022 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S580

Price: S$899,888 / S$105,758 depreciation per year

Before we learn more about this car’s eye-popping options list, let’s dive right into the S580’s fun, geeky bits. Interior ambient lighting requires 253 LEDs.

“Executive Seats” can recline up to 43.5 degrees. The two-tone paint finish takes up to 1 week to complete. And if we think that the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is few and far between, already more than 60,000 units have been delivered, with China contributing a sizable portion of sales.

This unit’s steering wheel is wrapped in protective film, which suggests that they are not taking matters lightly. Despite efforts to beef up its level of luxury, untrained eyes might still treat it as a “regular S-Class” - which is precisely why some owners like it.

2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

Price: S$819,000 / S$227,253 depreciation per year

What’s your favourite Phantom moment? It could be the one-off Rolls-Royce V16 Experimental Phantom Coupé featured in Johnny English, or the Phantom in Iron Man - yes, the one sliced in half by electrical whips.

Or you might recall 3 Phantom Drophead Coupes ferrying Jessie J, Tinie Tempah and Taio Cruz at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. The Drophead Coupe was revolutionary to say the least, with styling heavily derived from the 100EX concept car.

It’s powered by no less than a V12, but that’s only scraping the surface of what it represents - opulence and superluxury, served on an open top magic carpet ride.
