Lexus RX 450h Hybrid finally launched here
Lexus' RX 400h showed the world the potential for a hybrid-performance SUV. Not known to rest on their laurels, Lexus has gone on to create the 450h.
Launched last Wednesday evening at the Lexus showroom, the RX Hybrid is a further development of the "Lexus Hybrid Drive" concept that pursues a balance between better fuel economy with linear, confident acceleration maintained through moderate and high speeds.
The all-new RX Hybrid features a 3.5-litre V6 Atkinson-cycle engine, lighter electric motors, a smaller and lighter power-control unit and other fuel saving innovations.
Lexus claims that its performance is similar to that of V8 powered cars, with better combined fuel economy than the average four-cylinder mid-sized sedan.
The next generation RX 450h has a combined 295 hp, 27 hp more than the current generation RX 400h. The new RX is also capable of 317 Nm at 4,800 rpm, as compared to the previous model's 288 Nm at 4,400 rpm.
Energy is now stored in a more compact and lighter 288V DC Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack, which is placed under the rear seat.
The all-new Lexus RX 450h's retail price starts at $188,000. The Moonroof-equipped model goes for $192,000, while the range-topping Wide-Moonroof version is $195,000.
These prices quoted by Borneo Motors are inclusive of COE and the Green Rebate, but not insurance.
