I tried Toyota's 'Power Up, Swap Out' Campaign and fell in love with the Harrier Hybrid

As a father of a young boy juggling family life and career, I'm always out and about in my car doing anything from getting groceries to going for a business meeting.

I drive a 2006 Honda Accord Wagon, which returns around 8 km/l. With high fuel prices these days, I'm feeling the pinch. I have to spend around $150 each time I fill up the old gas guzzler. I also have to hit the petrol station pretty often - on average once a week. That costs more than my groceries every month!

Well, I swapped my car for a Toyota Harrier Hybrid for a week to see the difference, because Toyota is running its Power Up, Swap Out campaign. I've got to say, I'm much more relaxed and happy.

I didn't even have to refuel once during the week, with fuel consumption less than half that of my own car, at around 17 km/l. Range is easily above 800 km, and if I try hard enough, 1000 km is achievable. I’m not used to the fuel gauge moving so slowly downwards! I think I will only need to fuel up every fortnight at most, or even 3 weeks. Just think about the time and money I would save.

The Harrier Hybrid’s self-charging hybrid system, like in all Toyota hybrids, means no charging is ever required - so I don't ever have to worry about finding EV chargers or worse still, range anxiety.

Once in a blue moon, we get to go to Malaysia on a road trip as a family which is always something we look forward to. That's where the Harrier Hybrid would really work well for us, where charging infrastructure may be more of a concern given the greater distances involved.

You know what, this has got me thinking about changing to a Toyota Hybrid. I get to save fuel and be kinder to the environment at the same time by reducing my carbon footprint. If you're currently driving an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) car, be it petrol or diesel or a mild hybrid, or even an electric vehicle - I'd highly recommend you register your interest for 'Power up, Swap Out' and feel the difference and efficiency of a Toyota hybrid.
